Groups & Group Therapy

For some, the idea of participating in group therapy might seem intimidating. But more often than not, participants find that hearing from others with similar issues helps them to see they’re not alone.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or another mental health issue, group therapy may be an excellent supplement or alternative to one-on-one counseling. Contact Capital Counseling, and speak to one of our professional counselors to see if group therapy is right for you.

Participation

Unless otherwise noted in the description, participants in any therapy group are required to meet first with a Capital Counseling therapist to assure that group therapy is clinically appropriate. You may call or contact us through this website to schedule that appointment.

  • Groups are typically from 8 to 12 individuals
  • May be either open-ended (continuously running), or close-end (for a specific period of time and number of sessions).
  • Fees are typically self-pay though some may accept insurance. This will be noted in the group description.
  • Because group sizes are limited, your participation is expected when you enroll. Therefore, there are no refunds for prepayments, cancellations or no-shows
  • For more information call (518) 462-6531 Option 2 or contact us online

Description:

The Mood Disorders Recovery Group helps participants to understand the lifestyle patterns known to contribute to recovery from depression and bipolar mood disorders. Group members support one another through the introduction of Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) and by practicing strategies to achieve and maintain more stable and positive emotional well-being. Group sessions focus on helpful patterns of thinking, social engagement, physical activity, healthy eating and sleep habits and other strategies to support long-term recovery.

This is an open group. There are 12 distinct components to the TLC program, though each session is distinct and helpful for developing new, positive patterns of behavior, without having participated in prior sessions. This means new individuals are welcomed every week and may join at any time. Likewise, individuals are encouraged to continue to participate until they feel they have fully adopted each of the strategies into their daily habits.
